SILSDEN SOLDIER DIES OF WOUNDS

Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas Tillotson, of 4, Stirling Street, Silsden, have received official information from the Infantry Record Office, York, that their only son, Lance-Corporal Harry Tillotson, of the Duke of Wellington’s West Riding Regiment, died of wounds on November 23rd at the 48th Casualty Clearing Station France.

In a letter to Mrs. Tillotson, Chaplain J. Parker states:– “You have my truest sympathy, as have all the brave women of England, who at this time are called upon to suffer so much. I know what it is to pass through this dark night of sorrow, yet you must take courage. Your grief is great in its pain, yet it is great also in its glory. You must try and be brave, for by now he has reaped his reward. Your son was quite unconscious of all his sufferings, and had a very peaceful end.”

Lance-Corporal Tillotson, who was 30 years of age, enlisted in April 1916, and went out to France last February. He was wounded in the forearm in May, and after several months in hospital in France he returned to the Front. He was formerly employed as a warp twister by Mr. J. Emsley of Bradford. Letters have also been received from workpeople at the above firm expressing their sympathy with the parents in their great loss, and testifying to the esteem and goodwill with which deceased was held whilst working amongst them.
