SILSDEN – DEATH OF FIRST-CLASS AIR MECHANIC HARRY TILLOTSON

The death of First Class Air Mechanic Harry Tillotson, R.N.A.S., son of the late Mr. Joshua Tillotson, builder and contractor, Silsden, took place on Saturday morning, 21st December, at Dyke Bar Military Hospital, Paisley, from the effects of shell shock and exposure. Deceased, who was 36 years of age, joined up in November 1916, and after being stationed in Cornwall, Scarborough and Redcar, he was transferred to Flanders, where he had been under constant heavy bombardment from the German aircraft. He was a member of the firm of Messrs. David Tillotson Ltd., manufacturers, Waterloo Mills, Silsden. He was a member of the Conservative Club, and formerly played in the billiard team in the Skipton and District Conservative Club League. The funeral took place on Thursday of last week at the Silsden Parish Church with full military honours. The coffin was conveyed to the churchyard on a gun carriage, accompanied by outriders, a firing party of N.C.O.s and men from the A.S.C. at Bradford Moor Barracks attending.

The ‘Last Post’ was also sounded. The cortege was very impressive and the route from the deceased’s home to the churchyard was lined with sympathetic townspeople. The Vicar (Rev. E. E. Peters, M.A.) conducted the service. Amongst many present were the employees of Messrs. David Tillotson Limited, and representatives from the Silsden Conservative Club. Many beautiful wreaths were sent by relatives and friends.
