8.50am: Man overboard Port side. Stopped Port Engine. Full astern Port Engine. Full ahead Starboard Engine. Helm hard a’starboard. Life Buoys thrown overboard immediately & signalmen on bridge keeping eye on man, cleared away PA seaboat
9.00am: Lowered PA Seaboat, Both engines stopped, picked up life buoys but no sign of man (Henry Berry Watson, Able Seaman RNVR, MZ/1825)
9.35am: Hoisted sea boat & steamed round in circle
9.45am: Resumed course S20W
