Oh for a touch of the vanished hand,
And a voice that we loved is still;
A place is vacant at our home
Which never can be filled.

It’s only a mother who knows the sorrow,
It’s only a mother who knows the pain,
Of loosing a son she loved so dearly,
And to know she will not see him again.

Friends may think that we forget him,
When at times we’re apt to smile;
But they know the grief that’s hidden
In our hearts all the while.

– From his loving Mother, Father, and Brothers. 14, Lower Went Avenue, Barnoldswick.
