EMBSAY SOLDIER'S DEATH – PRIVATE JEFFREY WELLOCK WEST

Private Geoffrey Wellock West, who was 36 years of age, came to Embsay from Pateley Bridge when quite a boy to learn the boot and clog business with his brother, Mr. John S. West, of Elm Tree Square, Embsay. About six years ago he removed to Harrogate and started in business there. In April last year he joined the West Yorkshires, and in July was drafted into France. On September 3rd he was officially reported missing, but no further particulars were forthcoming until one of his comrades recently home on leave assured his relatives that he was killed on that date by the explosion of one of the enemy's shells.
