FORMER SKIPTON MAN KILLED

Pte. John Brown, Scotch Fusiliers, brother of Miss Annie Brown, of Westmorland Street and Mrs. Waddington, Broughton Road, Skipton, has been killed in action in France. According to news received by relatives, he was shot through the head.

Pte. Brown, who was 43 years of age, joined the Army at the age of 2l and was a time expired man when the present war broke out. He went through the South African campaign. He re-enlisted soon after the outbreak of hostilities.

To a former generation of Skiptonians he will be well known. He served his time as tailor with Messrs. Chadwick and Co., Swadford Street, Skipton.

SKIPTON SOLDIER KILLED IN FRANCE

News has been received that Pte. John Brown, of the Royal Scots Fusiliers, and brother of Miss Annie Brown of Westmoreland Street and of Mrs. Waddington of Broughton Road, Skipton, has been killed in action in France. Pte. Brown, who was 43 years of age, was an old soldier, having served through the Boer War. He received his discharge some years ago, having served his time, but upon the outbreak of the war he again enlisted. He was killed instantaneously, being shot through the head. He served his time as a tailor with Mr. I. Chadwick of Swadford Street, Skipton, and will be well known by many old Skiptonians. He first joined the colours when he was 21 years of age.
