John Robinson was the son of Edward and Jane Robinson, née Wilcock. Edward was born at Newby and Jane at Bentham, Yorkshire. John was the cousin of Private Alfred Baldwin (20863) (q.v.).

John was married to Lucy Jane O'Hara in 1910.

George O’Hara (see above), the son of Lucy Jane and stepson of John, died in a Japanese prisoner of camp on the 27 November 1942 and is commemorated on the Yokohama Cremation Memorial, Japan. He served as Gunner 1809186, 95th Bty., 48th Light A.A. Regiment, Royal Artillery. George was married to Nora Bramall in 1935. Nora died in 2001.

Private John Robinson, Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, who is officially reported killed on July 20th rejoined the Colours in September, 1914, having previously served seven years in the 11th Hussars. He took part in the Dardanelles campaign before going to France, where he was employed as shoeing smith in the West Yorks. Regiment until transferred to the ‘Duke’s’ some three months ago. He leaves a wife and two children living at 17 Chapel Street, Barnoldswick. Private Robinson was 36 years of age.

Barnoldswick Soldier Killed

Pte. John Robinson, Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, who is officially reported killed on July 20th, rejoined the colours in September, 1914, having previously served seven years in the 11th Hussars. He took part in the Dardanelles campaign before going to France, where he was employed as a shoeing smith in the West Yorkshire Regiment, until transferred to the Duke’s some three months ago. He leaves a wife and two children, living at 17, Chapel Street, Barnoldswick. Pte. Robinson was 36 years of age.
