SILSDEN

PRIMITIVE METHODIST MINISTER‘S FAREWELL

The Rev. Wm. Dickinson, who for the past five years had been the minister in charge of the Silsden Primitive Methodist Church, and who left the town this week to take up ministerial duties at Scarborough, preached his farewell sermon at the Silsden Church on Sunday evening last, in connection with which a memorial service was also held for Able Seaman Joshua Roberts, of H.M.S. Resolution, son of Mrs. Roberts, of 18, Hothfield Street North, Silsden, who died recently on a hospital ship from appendicitis. The service was a most impressive one. At the close of the services several of the leaders of the church spoke words of appreciation of Mr. and Mrs. Dickinson’s service during the five years they had been at Silsden, and wished them Godspeed in their new sphere of labour. Tangible proof of the warm affection in which Mr. and Mrs. Dickinson were held by the congregation was shown by the private gifts they have received from the members of the church. The Rev. John Hodges, of Darwen, will be Mr. Dickinson’s successor, and will commence his ministerial duties on Sunday next.
