On Sunday morning Mrs. William Greenwood, Falcon Cliffe, Steeton, received the sad news that her grandson, Private Norman Watson, West Riding Regiment, had died of wounds in hospital in France. The information was sent by a chaplain who expressed his sympathy with the bereaved lady in her loss. Private Watson, as was stated in last week’s issue, was the only child of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Watson, of Steeton, and a grandson of the late Mr. Henry Watson. The deceased soldier reached his 20th birthday on February 3rd, and previous to joining up last July was in the employ of the Steeton Co-operative Society. His cheerful disposition and unassuming manner was such as to gain for him the esteem of all who were acquainted with him in either business or private life.
