Walter Percy Stead was the son of Arthur Nettleton and Ellen Stead, née Watts. Arthur was born at Bradford, Yorkshire and Ellen at Atworth, Wiltshire.

1891 Bradford, Yorkshire Census: 7, Raglan Street - Walter P. Stead, aged 3 years, son of Arthur and Ellen Stead.

1901 Bradford, Yorkshire Census: Nutter Orphanage, Cousen Road - Percy Stead, aged 13 years, born Bradford. [Percy's father had died in 1893 and mother in 1897.]

1911 Saint Andrew's Barracks, Malta Census: 2nd Battalion The Prince Albert's, Somersetshire Light Infantry - Private Percy Stead, aged 25 years, born Bradford, Yorkshire.

Percy was married to Lily Reeves in 1915.

Percy is commemorated on the Midland Railway War Memorial at Derby.

Pte. Percy Stead, Somerset Light Infantry, who was formerly employed at the Barnoldswick Railway Station, has been reported missing since July 1st. His wife lives at 7, Arthur Street.
