Peter Ferrans was the son of Peter and Nancy Ferrans, formerly Brannan, née Barnes. Peter, senior, was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland and Nancy at Haslingden, Lancashire. Peter, junior, was baptized at Holy Trinity, Bury, on 9 April 1880; abode 88, George Street.

1881 Barnoldswick, Yorkshire Census: Peter Ferrens [sic], aged 12 months, born Bury, Lancashire, son of Peter and Nancy Farrens [sic].

1891 Barnoldswick, Yorkshire Census: 4, St. James Square - Peter Ferrens [sic], aged 11 years, born Bury, Lancashire, nephew of Mary Brennand [née Barnes], widow.

Peter was married to Martha Ethel Thorpe at Gill Church, Barnoldswick in 1909. (The marriage was witnessed by Owen Brennand (sic) who signed with a cross; he was probably Peter’s half-brother, Owen Brannan).
