Richard Albert Whiteley (born 29 September 1896) was the son of Albert and Janet Whiteley, née Hyatt. Albert was born at Burnley, Lancashire and Janet at Chester, Cheshire.

1901 Earby, Yorkshire Census: Stony Bank - Albert Whitley [sic], aged 4 years, born Kelbrook, Yorkshire, son of Albert and Janet Whitley.

1911 Earby, Yorkshire Census: 16, Lincoln Road - Richard Albert Whiteley, aged 14 years, born Kelbrook, Yorkshire, son of Albert and Janet Whiteley.

Richard trained with the 11th (Reserve) Battalion Alexandra, Princess of Wales’s Own (Yorkshire Regiment) and then served in France and/or Belgium with the 8th and 10th (Service) Battalions before transferring to the Labour Corps. He died of influenza at No 6 General Hospital, Rouen. His Service Record gives his father’s address as 24, Hayward Avenue, Seaton Delaval, Northumberland.
