Robert Edgar Walker was the son of Roger and Ann Walker, née Thwaite and brother of Corporal Thomas William Walker (2501) (q.v.). Their father was born at Liverpool, Lancashire and mother at West Mud Becks, Garsdale, Yorkshire.

WOUNDED AND MISSING

Mr. and Mrs. Walker, Glenside, Carleton have, received word of their second son, Pte. Robert E. Walker, D.L.I., being wounded on March 31st. They have lost their eldest son in the war.

Private Robert E. Walker, Carleton

Mr. and Mrs. Walker, Glen Side, Carleton, have received word from the War Office that their son, Private Robert E. Walker, D.L.I., has died a prisoner of war in Germany, from wounds received in France. Private Walker was reported missing on the 31st of March last. He is buried at Rosiers Cemetery, Germany. This is the second son Mr. and Mrs. Walker have lost in the war.

WALKER – In loving memory of our dear son, Pte. R. E. Walker, 77871, 12th Platoon, ‘C’ Coy, 8th D.L.I., who died April 4th, 1918, at Rosiers, Germany.

One year has passed since that sad day
When one we loved was called away;
His loving smile, his welcome face,
No one can fill his vacant place.

Sadly missed by his Father, Mother, Brothers and Sisters at 6 Park Terrace, Heywood, late of Glenside, Carleton, Skipton.

Carleton Soldier’s Death

Mrs. Walker, of Glen Side, Carleton, has received information that her son, Pte. R. Walker, of the Durham Light Infantry, who was reported wounded and missing, and is now dead, having died through wounds received in action.

Carleton Family’s Second Sacrifice

Mrs. R. Walker, of Glen Side, Carleton, has received information from the Record Office, York, that her son, Pte. Robert E. Walker, of the Durham Light Infantry, has died of wounds. He was reported missing on March 31st, and now he is reported buried at Rosiers Cemetery, Germany. A message of sympathy from the King and Queen and an expression of regret from the Army Council accompany the formal intimation. Pte. Walker was of a quiet disposition, and a regular attendant at the Sunday School; he was 20 years of age, and went out to France in January of the present year; before joining the colours he was working at Carleton Mills. This is the second son Mrs. Walker has lost during the present war.
