Robert Kingdon was the son of Robert and Martha Ann Kingdon, formerly McGuiness, née Lowth and brother of Private Arthur Kingdon (10353) (q.v.). Their father was born at Bermondsey, Surrey and mother at Leeds, Yorkshire.

1901 Leeds, Yorkshire Census: 10, Clifford Street - Robert Kingdon, aged 3 years, born Leeds, son of Robert and Martha A. Kingdon.

1911 Leeds, Yorkshire Census: 40, Dover Street, off Burley Road - Robert Kingdon, aged 13 years, born Leeds, son of Robert and Martha Ann Kingdon.

The wreath laid when the Settle Market Cross was converted to a temporary shrine read: In loving memory of Private A. Kingdon, 9th West Yorks., killed in action at Gallipoli, 9th August, 1915; also Corporal R. Kingdon, 15th West Yorks., killed in action September 29th, 1918. ('Craven Herald' 15 August 1919).
