Robert Matthew Fothergill was the son of Thomas and Annie Fothergill, née Braithwaite. Thomas was born at Ravenstonedale, Westmorland and Annie at Sedbergh, Yorkshire.

SEDBERGH – DIED AS PRISONER OF WAR

FOTHERGILL, Pte. – Mr. T. Fothergill, of Main Street, Sedbergh, has been informed that his son, Pte. R.M. Fothergill, of the R.G.A., has died while a prisoner in Germany. The notification from Germany roughly translated stated that Robert Matthew Fothergill, R.G.A., 251, born 13-11-87, at Sedbergh, died 5-10-18 in hospital. Accompanying the notice was a letter written in German.
