Robert Victor Casson was the son of William and Mary Casson, née Procter and brother of Gunner Thomas Casson (141056) (q.v.). Their father was born at Burton-in-Lonsdale, Yorkshire and mother at Tatham, Lancashire.

HIGH BENTHAM - Sad News

The sad news of the death of Private Robert Casson, R.F.A., the youngest son of Mr. Wm. Casson, of Hammon[d] Head, Mewith, Bentham, reached his father this week. He was home on leave about a month ago. This is the second son of Mr. Wm. Casson to pay the great price for his country. - Private Thomas Wilcock, of the Dukes, is reported missing since the 2lst March. He is the son of Mr. T. Wilcock, of Wenning Avenue, Bentham.

Private Robert P. Casson, Keasden

Mr. Casson, Hammond Head Farm, Keasdon, has received the painful news that his third son, Private Robert P. Casson, Duke of Wellington's Regiment, was killed in action on April 13th. The Captain of his Company writes as follows:- "I am very grieved to inform you that your son, Private R. P. Casson, was killed in action on April 13th 1918, during a heavy enemy attack. He was one of our old hands who had lately returned to us. He was a very good soldier indeed, a very good comrade, and we shall miss him very much. Please accept the very real sympathy of all members of 'D' Company in their great loss."

Private R. P.Casson joined the Forces under Lord Derby's scheme on December 11th 1915, began training in March and went to France June 1916. He returned to England in October with septic poisoning and went back on March 3rd 1917, again returning on leave in February this year. His brother, Gunner T. Casson, was killed on the same date last year. The eldest son, Private J. P. Casson, is still serving in France.

BENTHAM CASUALTIES

News was received on Monday morning last of the death in action, on April 13th, of Gunner Thomas Casson, of the R.F.A., son of Mr. Wm. Casson, of Hammond Head, near Bentham. The deceased joined up last May, and went to France in October. He was well known and highly respected in the Bentham and Clapham district. Another of his brothers, Pte. Robert Casson, is serving in France with the Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment.

Bentham Soldier's Death
