Wallace Cason was the son of John and Sarah Cason, née Bouskill. John was born at Langham, Essex and Sarah at Bentham, Yorkshire.

1911 Skipton, Yorkshire Census: 22, Spindle Shop Cottages [Damside] - Wallace Cason, aged 19 years, born Skipton, son of John and Sarah Cason.

Wallace was married to Ellen Clark in 1914. Ellen was the sister of Sergeant Henry Clark (3234979) (q.v.).

CASON - November 20th 1917, killed in action on the Western Front, Corporal Wallace Cason, Duke of Wellington's Regiment, son of Mrs. Cason, 22, Damside Cottages, Skipton.

A VICTIM OF THE GREAT ADVANCE - CORPORAL WALLACE CASON, SKIPTON

News was received during last weekend of the death in action on November 20th of Corporal Wallace Cason, Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment, son of Mrs. Cason, 22, Damside Cottages, Skipton. Deceased, who leaves a wife and child, enlisted in January 1915, and went to the Front in February last. He was formerly employed in the Loco. Department of the Midland Railway in Skipton, and was a member of the Skipton Congregational Brotherhood. In a letter to the bereaved mother, the Captain of deceased's company expresses his sympathy and mentions that Corporal Cason was killed during the recent great advance by a German machine gun bullet. He adds:- "Your son was a good soldier and had just been promoted to the rank of full corporal."

Mrs. Cason has another son serving - Private J. T. Cason, Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment, at present stationed in England; while three brothers of deceased's widow are also in the Forces - Private James Clark and Drummer Henry Clark, both with the West Riding Regiment in France, and Sergeant Willie Clark, with the lst Training Corps in England. Corporal Park, a son-in-law of Mrs. Cason, jun., is also with the West Riding Regiment in France.

Lance-Corporal Harold Speight, West Riding Regiment, of Bingley, who is a nephew of Mrs. Cason, senior, has been wounded in the back and chest and is in hospital at Leeds.

SKIPTON - CORPL. WALLACE CASON KILLED

Corporal Wallace Cason, of the West Riding Regiment, son of Mrs. Cason, of 22, Damside Cottage, Skipton, was killed in action on November 20th. Corporal Cason, who was 25 years of age, enlisted in January, 1915, and had been out in France since February last. He was a member of the Brotherhood at the Congregational Church, and was formerly employed in the Loco Department of the Midland Railway at Skipton. He leaves a widow and one child. In a letter to his mother, the Captain of his Company states:- "It is with the deepest sympathy and regret that I write to tell you of the death of your brave son, Corporal Cason, who was in my company. The company was in action during the great advance, on November 20th, and your son was killed by a German machine gun bullet while advancing. He was killed instantaneously and suffered no pain. Your son was a good soldier, and he had just been promoted to the rank of full corporal. I offer you my deepest sympathy in your trouble." Mrs. Cason has another son. Pte. J. T. Cason, who is at present in England. The deceased soldier's wife has also three brothers serving, Drummer Henry Clarke, of the Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment, in France, Sergt. Willie Clarke, of the 1st Training Corps, stationed in England, and Pte. James Clarke, of the Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment, in France, while a son-in-law of Mrs. Cason, Corpl. Park, is also attached to the West Riding Regiment.

Skipton Soldiers Wounded

Mrs. Mason, of 24, Damside Cottage, Skipton, has received word that her husband, Pte. J.T. Cason, of the West Yorkshire Regiment, has been admitted into hospital at Stockport suffering from a gunshot wound in the left hand. Prior to joining the colours he was employed at the Belle Vue Mills, Skipton. A younger brother Corpl. Wallace Cason, was killed in action last November.
