BURNLEY WOOD FAMILY BEREAVED

Mr. and Mrs. Butler, 69, Crowther-street, Burnley, have received official intimation of the death in action of their youngest son, Pte. (32247) Sammy Butler, of the Tyneside Scottish Regiment. The Butler family came from Earby about ten years ago, and Pte. Butler enlisted from that town on June 19, 1916, he being a weaver at Messrs. T.H. Hartley's Brook Shed, Earby. The soldier went abroad in December last, and he was wounded in the head and arm in June. He recovered in a French hospital, and without getting leave, returned to duty, and was killed on October 14, 1917. Pte Butler, who was originally in the 21st Northumberland Fusiliers, lived at 31, Highfield-street, Earby. There will be a memorial service on Sunday at Thornton Church.

Private Sammy Butler, Northumberland Fusiliers, officially reported killed in action on October 14th was 35 years of age, and leaves a wife and two children living at 31, Highfield Road, Earby. He went out to France in December last, and was slightly wounded in the July push. In civil life he was a weaver employed by Messrs. T. H. Hartley Ltd., Brook Shed.
