KELBROOK CONTRACTOR KILLED IN ACTION

News came to hand on Friday last, December 8th, of the death of Sergt. Major Samuel Wormwell, husband of Mrs. A. Wormwell, 3, John Street, Earby, and son of the late Mr. James Wormwell, of Kelbrook, officially reported killed in action on November 5th. Sergt. Major Wormwell, formerly of Kelbrook, was a builder and contractor prior to going to Australia a few years ago. He leaves a widow and two children.

Deceased was one of four brothers, all engaged in the same line of business, who emigrated to Australia about five years ago. Two of these, Samuel and Jesse, joined the Army soon after the outbreak of War, and came out with the Australian contingent last year. The younger (Jesse) was wounded shortly after landing in Gallipoli, and since his recovery has been stationed at Weymouth. Samuel came through unscathed and was subsequently drafted to the Western Front. He went out as a volunteer in the South African campaign, rising to the rank of corporal, a fact which no doubt accounted for his rapid promotion in the present war. Another brother (Fred) is still in France. Sergt. Major Wormwell leaves a wife and two children.
