RIMINGTON - Military Item

Private Tom Battersby, son of Mr. T. Battersby, of Rimington, has been officially notified as missing. A friend in the same company has written to the family saying there is every hope that Private Battersby is a prisoner of war, as other members of the company engaged in the same action are already known to be prisoners.

Mr. and Mrs. Battersby, Chatburn, or Miss A. Battersby, Gisburne, would be most grateful for information of their son and brother, particulars of whom are as follows:- Corporal T. Battersby 65607, 'A' Section, 'B' Company, 66th Division M.G. Corps, B.E.F., France. Corporal Battersby was officially reported missing from Hargiecourt on March 22nd, 1918, and it is possible returning prisoners of war may have news of him.

RIMINGTON - THE FATE OF CORPORAL T. BATTERSBY

We regret to record the fact that Corporal Thomas Battersby, of the Machine Gun Corps, who was reported missing on the 22nd of March, 1918, is now officially reported by the Army Council to have met his death on or since that date. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Battersby, late of Rimington, and now residing at Chatburn, to whom the sympathy of the inhabitants will be extended in their painful bereavement.
