Thomas Hartley Bailey was the son of William Henry and Anna Maria Bailey, née Hartley and brother of Private Bennett Bailey (12494) (q.v.). Their father was born at Earby, Yorkshire and mother at Burnley, Lancashire. Thomas was the cousin of Private Smith Bailey (12532) (q.v.).

BARNOLDSWICK - A Khaki Wedding

At the Wesleyan Church on Monday forenoon, the marriage took place of Miss Betsy Alice Harrison, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Harrison, Melbourne Mount, Barnoldswick, to Pte. Thos. Hartley Bailey, son of Mr. W. H. Bailey, of Earby. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Matthew Hall, superintendent minister, and was witnessed by a large gathering of friends. The bride has for some years been a teacher in the infants' department at Rainhall Road School, and also a member of the Wesleyan choir. The bridegroom, who is in the 2nd 6th Duke of Wellington's Regiment, is in training at Sherwood Forest, wither he returned the following day. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a biscuit coloured dress of flowered silk, relieved with cerise, with hat to match. She was attended by Miss Matilda Waite (her cousin) as bridesmaid. Mr. H. Bailey (brother of the bridegroom) was the 'best man.' Before and after the ceremony suitable music was played by the organist, Mr. Herbert Watkinson. The wedding breakfast was provided at Alexandra Cafe, and subsequently the wedding party went on a motor drive to Harrogate. Amongst numerous handsome presents received by the bride was a case of one dozen silver spoons with tongs from the teaching staff at Rainhall Road Infants' School.

Private Thomas H. Bailey, Duke of Wellington's, killed April 14th, was 31 years of age and the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Bailey, 40 Longroyd Road, Earby, who lost another son (Private Bennett Bailey) in the Dardanelles campaign. Private T. H. Bailey enlisted in 1914, and was invalided home after 20 months service in France, whither he only returned at Easter. He was formerly an overlooker at Messrs. C. W. Bailey's, Spring Mill, Earby, and married, his wife residing at 24 Melbourne Mount, Barnoldswick.

MILITARY WEDDING: BAILEY - HARRISON

The marriage took place at Rainhall Road Wesleyan Chapel, Barnoldswick, on Monday, of Private Thomas Hartley Bailey, son of Mr. W.H. Bailey, Earby, and Miss Betsy Alice Harrison, only daughter of Mr. Wm. Harrison, of Millbourne Mount, Manchester Road, Barnoldswick, and a member of the Rainhall Road School infants' staff. The Ceremony was performed by Rev. Matthew Hall. The bride was daintily gowned, and was attended by her cousin, Miss Matilda Waite, as bridesmaid, whilst Mr. H. Bailey, brother of the bridegroom, officiated as best man. Amongst the presents was a case of one dozen silver spoons with tongs from the staff of the Rainhall Road Infants' School.

The bridegroom is a member of the 2nd 6th Duke of Wellington's Regiment, stationed at the Sherwood Forest Training Camp.
