Thomas William Hardiman was the son of Joseph and Maria Hardiman, née Moore. Joseph was born at Alderbury,Wiltshire and Maria at York, Yorkshire. Maria died in 1895 and Joseph married Elisabeth Sawrey Clarke in 1896.

HARDIMAN – April 9th, 1917 killed in action on the Western Front, Pte. Thomas William Hardiman, K.O.Y.L.I., aged 38 years.

LOTHERSDALE [sic] – ANOTHER SOLDIER KILLED

Mr. and Mrs. Hardiman have received information from the War Office that their son, Private Thomas W. Hardiman, of the K.O.Y L.I. was killed whilst serving in France on 9th April. Pte. Hardiman enlisted in March 1916, and went out to France three months afterwards. Prior to enlisting he was nineteen years in the service of Mrs. Richardson, of New Parks, near York, as gamekeeper. He was secretary of the club to which he belonged and did much useful work in the village, was always ready to help in any emergency, and was greatly respected. Mr. Hardiman has one other son serving in France – Pte. Christopher Hardiman, who is attached to the R.A.M.C. The one who has been killed was aged 38 years.

LONG PRESTON – THE LATE PTE. HARDIMAN

Mr. and Mrs. Hardiman, of Long Preston, received official information from the War Office on Monday morning the 30th April, that their son, Pte. Thomas William Hardiman of the K.O.Y.L.I. Regiment was killed whilst serving in France on April 9th. Pte. Hardiman, aged 39, enlisted in March 1916 and went out to France last June. Prior to enlisting he was for 10 years in the service of Mrs. Richardson, Burn Hall, near York, as gamekeeper. During that time he was secretary to the Club to which he belonged and doing much other useful work in the village, and was always ready to help in any emergency. He was greatly respected. Mr. Hardiman, Long Preston, has another son serving in France – Pte. Christopher Hardiman who is attached to the R.A.M.C.

Mr. Hardiman has one other son serving in France, Pte. Chris. Hardiman, who is attached to the R.A.M.C. The one who has been killed was 38 years of age.
