EMBSAY - DIED OF WOUNDS

On Friday official information was received from the War Office of the death of Private Thomas Chapman, son of the late Mr. William Chapman of Cragg View, Embsay. Private T. Chapman was thirty-three years of age and his death was the result of wounds received. He enlisted in the West Yorks. in June 1917, and after training at Clipston and Rugeley he crossed to France in October 1917. Shortly before his death he was employed as despatch messenger and was attached to the North Staffs. Regiment. At the time of enlistment Private Chapman was employed by Mr. Davy, provision merchant, Embsay, and previous to that he was employed for about ten years at the Devonshire Arms, Bolton Abbey.
