STENSON – Killed in action on the Western Front, on October 8th 1917, Pte. W. Stenson, Duke of Wellington’s West Riding Regiment, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stenson, Skipton, aged 39 years.

CRAVEN AND THE WAR – PRIVATE WALTER STENSON

A fifth Skiptonian whose death we have to record is Private Walter Stenson, Duke of Wellington’s West Riding Regiment, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stenson, of Watson’s Houses.

His sister, Mrs. Needham, Romille Street, Skipton, has received a letter from the captain of his Regiment stating that he was hit by a shell on the 8th inst. and killed instantly. The writer said that Private Stenson was highly respected by all his comrades.

Deceased was 39 years of age, and followed the occupation of cattle drover prior to enlisting in March 1916. He had been at the Front about fifteen months.

ANOTHER SKIPTON SOLDIER KILLED

Pte. Walter Stenson, of the Duke of Wellington’s West Riding Regiment, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stenson, of Watson Houses, Skipton, and brother of Mrs. Needham, of Romille Street, Skipton, was killed in action on October 8th. In a letter to Mrs. Needham, the Captain of his regiment states that Pte. Stenson was hit by a shell and killed instantly. He also adds that he was highly respected by all his comrades. Pte. Stenson, who was 39 years of age, enlisted in March, 1916, and had been out in France about fifteen months. He was well-known among the cattle dealers, for whom he acted as cattle drover.
