Walton Pickover was the son of Joseph and Sarah Ann Pickover, née France. Joseph was born at Salterforth and Sarah at Leeds, Yorkshire.

1881 Salterforth, Yorkshire Census: Salterforth Lane - Walton Pickover, aged 2 years, born Salterforth, son of Joseph and Sarah Ann Pickover.

1891 Barnoldswick, Yorkshire Census: 16, East Hill Street - Walton Peckover, aged 12 years, born Barnoldswick, son of Joseph and Sarah A. Peckover.

1911 Shipley, Yorkshire Census: Canal Wharfe. Name of vessel: 'Milo' - Walter [sic] Peckover, aged 30 years, born Salterforth, Lancashire [sic]. Mate. [Walton's father, Joseph, also described as a Mate, was on the same vessel.]

BARNOLDSWICK SOLDIER’S DEATH PRESUMED

Mrs. W. Pickover, 12, Turner Street, Barnoldswick, has received a War Office note presuming the death of her husband, Pte. Walton Pickover, of the 2nd West Riding Regiment, who had been missing since April 18th, 1915, after taking part in the battle of Hill 60. Pte. Pickover, who was 38 years of age, joined the Army in August, 1914, and went out to France the January following. He worked as a cop winder at Messrs. B. and E. M. Holden’s Moss Shed. He leaves a widow and two children.

Mrs. W. Pickover, 12, Turner Street, Barnoldswick, has received a War office note presuming the death of her husband, Private Walton Pickover, of the 2nd West Riding Regiment, who had been missing since April 18th, 1915, after taking part in the battle of Hill 60.
