Private Wilfred Pendle, Skipton

News has been received from York of the death of Private Wilfred Pendle, D.L.I., son of Mrs. Elizabeth Pendle, of 8 Alexander Terrace, Walton Houses, Skipton. No particulars are as yet to hand as to how and where the sad event took place.

29 August 1919

PENDLE – In loving memory of my dear grandson, Private Wilfred Pendle, who made the supreme sacrifice in France August 25th, 1918, aged 19 years.

Gone is the face I loved so dear,
Silent the voice I loved to hear;
Too far away for sight or speech,
But not too far for thoughts to reach.
I loved him, yes, no tongue can tell
How deep, how dearly, and how well;
Christ loved him, too, and thought it best
To take him home with Him to rest.

From his sorrowing Grandmother, Mrs. Oxley, best known as Mrs. Pendle, 8 Alexandria Terrace, Keighley Road.

27 August 1920

02 September 1921

PENDLE – In loving memory of Pte. Wilfred Pendle, killed in France, August 25th, 1918.
