William Arnold (born 7 March 1898) was the son of William and Sarah Jane Arnold, née Turrell. William, senior, was born at New Sharlston and Sarah at Sharlston, Yorkshire.

Lance Corporal William Arnold, Machine Gun Corps, whose death occurred from wounds and gas poisoning at a C.C.S. in France on October 25th had been awarded the M.M. a month previously. A native of Sharleston, near Wakefield, he enlisted three years ago, and underwent his first training at Skipton. He had served in France eight months. Lance Corporal Arnold was 21 years of age and married, his wife residing at 7 Shuttleworth Street, Earby.
