COWLING – CORPL. WILLIAM GREAVES REPORTED KILLED

Mrs. Greaves, of 146, Keighley Road, Cowling, has received definite, though not official, intimation that her husband, Corp. William Greaves, of the Duke of Wellington’s West Riding Regiment, who was reported missing in August 1915 while fighting in the Gallipoli Peninsula, was fatally shot through the neck on August 9th 1915.

The information came through Sergt. John Thorne, who is now at his home at Keighley on a short furlough from the front in France. Sergt. Thorne belonged to the same regiment and was a comrade of Corporal Greaves, both in training and on active service, and helped to bury him at the Oxford Circus Cemetery, Gallipoli, and was not aware of the uncertainty of Corporal Greaves’ fate.
