BOLTON-BY-BOWLAND – PRIVATE WILLIAM THOMSON KILLED

More sad news reached the village on Friday evening last, viz. that Pte. William Thomson, brother of Mrs. Harry Wolfenden, of Bolton Mill, had been killed in action in France. He was the second son of Mrs. Adam Thomson, Bank Villa, Rossail, whose life has been sacrificed in the War. He was employed as assistant gardener at Bolton Hall for about six months previous to August l5th last when he enlisted in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers and left England for the Front about a month ago. He had only been in the trenches three days when unfortunately he was shot through the head whilst on sentry duty.
