Willie Dowd was the son of John and Ellen Dowd, née Mullin. John was born in Ireland and Ellen at St Helens, Lancashire.

Willie was married to Betsy Baron in 1898.

Willie was not at home when the 1901 Census was taken, but his wife and children were living at 9, Edmund Street, Darwen, next door to her father-in-law, John Dowd, by then a widower.

[William, a widower, and four of his sons were living with his sister-in-law, Ruth Alice Southworth, née Baron.
