Alfred James Trayford was the son of Alfred James and Elizabeth Ann Trayford, née Tomlinson. Alfred, senior, was born at Blatherwycke, Northamptonshire and Elizabeth at Airton, Yorkshire. Alfred, junior, was the cousin of Private Edward (Edgar) Smith (12132) (q.v.). The aunt of Alfred, junior, Mary Ann Trayford, became the second wife of Arthur Waddicor the father of Private Thomas Arthur Waddicor (24154) (q.v.).

BARNOLDSWICK – Private Alfred James Trayford

Private Alfred James Trayford, who died from pneumonia in France on the 12th inst., was 26 years of age and leaves a wife and two children living at 37 Bracewell Street, Barnoldswick. After being several times rejected he was passed by the Medical Board and had served 16 months in France, whence he came home on leave in September last. He was formerly a weaver at Mr. T. Nutter’s, Calf Hall Shed.

Barnoldswick Soldier’s Death in France

Pte. Alfred James Trayford, who died from pneumonia in France on the 12th inst., was 26 years of age, and leaves a wife and two children, living at 37, Bracewell Street, Barnoldswick. After being several times rejected he was passed by the Medical Board, and had served 16 months in France when he came home on leave in September last. He was formerly a weaver at Mr. T. Nutter’s, Calf Hall Shed.
