SKIPTON'S ROLL OF HONOUR – PRIVATE ARTHUR CORE

We regret to say that Mrs. Core, who lives with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rider, Moorland View, Skipton, has received a letter, dated May 5th, from a Bradford soldier named James Mitchell, stating that her husband, Private Arthur Core, West Yorkshire Regiment, has been killed in action. The writer of the letter says:– “It is the most painful duty that I have been called upon to perform and let you know of the death of your husband and my true friend. He was loved by us all who knew him and we have been together all through, from our training up to the present. He was a true soldier, both to his God and country, and was always full of confidence for the future.”

Pte. Mitchell also expresses his sympathy with the bereaved wife.

The son of Mr. J. E. Core, Queen Street, Skipton, and formerly employed as a dyer at Park Shed (Mr. J. Wilkinson’s), Pte. Core enlisted nearly twelve months ago and had been at the Front about seven months. He was a member of the Gargrave Road Primitive Methodist Church Choir, a performing member, and also a committee-man of the Skipton Choral Society, and was also associated with the old Skipton Vocal Union. At one time he was greatly interested in football and played with the Skipton Celtic Association Club.
