BARNOLDSWICK – MISSING SOLDIER’S DEATH CONFIRMED

Mr. Thos. Wilson, 5, Co-operative Street, Barnoldswick, has received a report from the Records Office, York, notifying the death of his only son, Private Carol Wilson, West Riding Regiment, who had been missing for three months. The report stated that he was killed in action or died of wounds in France on or shortly after October 9th, 1917. Private Wilson was in his 21st year, and had been on the Western Front about 18 months. Before joining up he worked at Bradley Bros., Bankfield Shed.

WILSON – In loving memory of Private Carol Wilson, 1/5th Duke of Wellington’s Regiment (attached to the 147th Machine Gun Company), formerly of Industrial Street, Barnoldswick, killed in action 9th October, 1917.
