George Frederick Atkinson was the son of William and Minnie Atkinson, née Williams. William was born at Settle, Yorkshire and Minnie at Redruth, Cornwall. Minnie died in 1902.

1901 Settle, Yorkshire Census: Albert Hill - Fred Atkinson, age 9 years, born Langcliffe, Yorkshire son of William and Minnie Atkinson.

1911 Settle, Yorkshire Census: Albert Hill - George F. Atkinson, aged 19 years, born Settle, son of William and [stepson of] Alice Atkinson. [William had married Alice Jackman in 1910.]

George was married to Lucy Crowley in 1914. Lucy was born at Burnley, Lancashire c. 1892. In 1911 she was living with her sister, Julia and brother-in-law, Henry Lucas at 4, Stuart Street, Barnoldswick, Yorkshire. Lucy died in early 1919.
