THOMPSON – October 9th, 1918, died of wounds received in France, Private George Thompson, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, aged 30 years.

Skipton Angler Dies from Wounds

Private George Thompson, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, a well-known Skipton angler and a member of the Skipton Angling Club, died on October 9th in a French hospital from wounds received in the recent fighting. He was 30 years of age and one of two soldier sons of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, of 76 Broughton Road, Skipton; his wife being the daughter of Mr. Jos. Coates, landlord of the Old George Hotel, Skipton. He was a warp-dresser at Colne prior to enlisting about two years ago, and had had two periods of service at the Front, being invalided home with trench foot on the first occasion. His brother, Lance-Corporal Arthur Thompson, is with the West Riding Regiment in France.

Skipton Soldier Dies of Wounds

News has been received that Pte. George Thompson, of the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, 76, Broughton Road, Skipton, died of wounds in hospital on Oct. 9th. Pte. Thompson, who was 30 years of age, enlisted about two years ego and went to the front and returned to England with trench feet. He had only been back in France eight weeks. He was formerly employed at Colne as a warpdresser, and married a daughter of Mr. Joseph Coates, landlord of the Old George Hotel, Skipton. He was a keen angler, being a member of the Skipton Angling Club. Another brother, Lance-Corpl. Arthur Thompson, is serving with the West Riding Regiment in France.
