Henry Wakefield (born 2 August 1889) was the son of William and Jane Wakefield, née Dickinson. William was born at Coventry, Warwickshire and Jane at Barnoldswick, Yorkshire. Henry was the cousin of Senior Reserve Attendant William Edward Anderson (M/10066) (q.v.).

1911 Barnoldswick, Yorkshire Census: 18, Railway Street - Henry Wakefield, aged 23 years, born Barnoldswick, son of William and Jane Wakefield.

The 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles were dismounted cavalry. They fought as infantry, initially with the 1st Canadian Mounted Brigade. In December 1915 they joined the 8th Canadian Brigade, 3rd Canadian Division as the 1st Battalion Canadian Mounted Rifles.

Private Henry Wakefield, Canadian Mounted Rifles, killed in action September 29th , was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wakefield, 18 Railway Street, Barnoldswick, and was 31 years of age. Formerly a weaver for Messrs. J. Moorhouse and Sons, Wellhouse Mill, he emigrated to Canada five years ago and was engaged in farming up to his joining the above regiment about 18 months since. He came to England in March last and had been at the front four months.
