Ivor Tempest Greenwood (born 26 October 1896) was the son of William Henry and Sarah Eliza Greenwood, née Harper. William was born at Keighley, Yorkshire and Sarah at Cefn Coed, Breconshire, Wales.

1901 Keighley, Yorkshire Census: 22, Eelholme View Street - Ivor Greenwood, aged 4 years, born Keighley, son of Sarah Greenwood (married).

1911 Keighley, Yorkshire Census: 178, Devonshire Street - Ivor Tempest Greenwood, aged 14 years, born Keighley, son of William Henry and Sarah Greenwood.

Ivor attended Keighley Boys’ Grammar School and joined the Army on the 31 August 1914.

Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects: Pte Ivor Greenwood, [no number given] 8th Battn West Riding Regt. Date and Place of Death: 16.9.14 Lincoln. To whom Authorised/Amount Authorised: Mother - Sarah. £2 7s. 6d.

Keighley (Utley) Cemetery Burial Register entry (18868): Ivor Tempest Greenwood, aged 17, Draftsman. Died at the Military Hospital, Lincoln. Buried 19th Sept. 1914, Grave Ref. C1-175. [Also buried in the grave are William Harper, Sarah Harper and John Dray.]

Ivor is commemorated in the 'Borough of Keighley Roll of Honour' book and on the Roll of Honour of All Saints' Church, Keighley.

FUNERAL OF A KEIGHLEY RECRUIT

The funeral of a young Keighley recruit, Ivor Greenwood, who died in the Lincoln Military Hospital, took place on Saturday at the Keighley Cemetery. The passing of the cortege through the streets of the town was witnessed by crowds numbering several thousand. Captain Tee attended on behalf of the military authorities, and in the long procession were sixty cadets in uniform and a detachment of Boy Scouts. Over the coffin was laid a Union Jack.
