[Untitled article]

News has been received at West Bradford that Private J. Sibson, of the Northumberland Fusiliers, has been killed in action. His corporal has written to that effect and there seems, therefore, every reason to fear the worst. Private Sibson was formerly a gardener at Eaves Hall, and married a daughter of Mr. Watson, Scarr Head, West Bradford.

WEST BRADFORD SOLDIER KILLED

We are deeply sorry to learn that the reported death in action of Private John. W. Sibson, 1st Northumberland Fusiliers, has proved only too well founded. The sad news was communicated to Mrs. Sibson (a daughter of Mr. Watson, Scarr Head, West Bradford) last Thursday. Highly esteemed by the villagers in general, Private Sibson was for six years at Eaves Hall, afterwards taking a situation at Middlewood, and, when called to the colours, was head gardener to Mrs. Rymer, Calder Abbey, Cumberland. Sympathy will be extended to Mrs. Sibson, who is left with one child, in her great trouble.

LATE PRIVATE J.W. SIBSON,

He was for six years a gardener at Eaves Hall, leaving there to take up a situation at Middlewood, Chatburn, and when called to the colours, he was head gardener at Calder Abbey, Cumberland. Attached to the 1st Northumberland Fusiliers, he was 36 years of age, and leaves a widow and one child.

IN MEMORIAM

SIBSON.–In loving memory of my dear husband, Pte. JOHN SIBSON, 1st Northumberland Fusiliers, who was killed in action in France, March 21st, 1917, and lies at a point north of Arras.

There is the peace of surrendered as well as of fulfilled hopes, the peace not of satisfied, but of extinguished longings, the peace not of the happy love and the secure fireside, but of unmurmuring and accepted loneliness.

Scar Head, West Bradford.
