BARNOLDSWICK MAN TAKEN PRISONER AT ANTWERP

Mrs. J. Tweedie, 23, Beech Street, Barnoldswick, recently received an official notification from the War Office that her son Pte. James Tweedie, of the Royal Marine Light Infantry, was "missing." Her anxiety on his behalf was considerably relieved on Tuesday by the receipt of the following postcard from Doeberitz, Germany:–

‘‘…hoping to find you in the best of health, as I am at present. I went to the front some time ago, and most of our company were captured by the Germans and made prisoners on the 9th October at Antwerp. Then we were taken to Germany and we shall have to stay here some time. Please try and send me a few cigarettes. Don't worry. From your son, Jim.’’

Mrs. Tweedie has three more sons serving in the army. One of them is in the Coldstream Guards, and went through several severe engagements during the earlier stages of the war. The other two are in the 2nd West Riding Reserves.
