Wallace Clough was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Clough, née Clapham. Thomas was born at Clitheroe, Lancashire and Elizabeth probably at Milnthorpe near Kirkby Lonsdale, Westmorland.

1901 Barnoldswick, Yorkshire Census: 59, Albert Street - Wallace Clough, aged 8 years, born Thornton [Thornton-in-Craven Parish], Yorkshire, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Clough.

1911 Barnoldswick, Yorkshire Census: 45, Prospect Terrace, Rainhall Road - Wallace Clough, aged 18 years, born Earby, Yorkshire, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Clough.

Wallace was married to Florrie Hall in 1913. In 1939 Florrie was living at 3, Westgate, Barnoldswick. Their daughter, Winifred, married Thomas Loveday in 1934.

The British Army Service Record for Wallace Clough (Service Number: 1252) exists but may be incomplete. He served in the pre-war Territorial Force with the 6th Bn Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment) from 1 December 1909 to 30 November 1913.

BARNOLDSWICK – THE WAR'S TOLL: Private W. Clough

Private Wallace Clough, Duke of Wellington’s, killed in action on the 12th inst., was 26 years of age, and leaves a wife and one child living at 16 Bank Street, Barnoldswick. Formerly a weaver for Messrs. Dewhurst, Long Ing, he enlisted four years ago and had served two years in France without a scratch. News of his death was received from Private T. Graham, a stretcher bearer in the same regiment, who states that he was hit in the head by a splinter of shell.
