CLOUGH – April 23rd 1917, killed in action in France, Pte. Hudson Clough, Northumberland Fusiliers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hudson Clough, 28, Westmorland Street, Skipton, aged 33 years.

PRIVATE HUDSON CLOUGH

Official news has also been received of the death in action on April 23rd of Pte. Hudson Clough, Northumberland Fusiliers, whose wife lives at 25, Dawson Street, Skipton. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Hudson Clough, 28, Westmorland Street, Skipton, deceased was 33 years of age, and enlisted in June last and went to France in November. He was previously a shop assistant for Mr. Wm. Price, Belmont Bridge, Skipton, and was a member of the Skipton Conservative Club and a well-known billiards player. His brother, Pte. Albert Clough, is serving with the West Yorkshire Regiment, and has been twice wounded. In a letter of sympathy to the bereaved wife, Pte. T. Core, of Skipton, and a pal of deceased, says:– “I shall never forget St. George’s Day (April 23rd), the day I lost my pal.”

We reproduce a photograph of Private Hudson Clough, Northumberland Fusiliers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hudson Clough, 28, Westmorland Street, Skipton, whose death in action on the Western Front on April 23rd 1917 was reported in the ‘Craven Herald’ last week. He was a well known member of the Skipton Conservative Club, aged 33 years, and his wife lives at 25, Dawson Street, Skipton.

SKIPTON SOLDIERS KILLED

Official news has been received that Private Hudson Clough, of the Northumberland Fusiliers, husband of Mrs. Clough, of 26, Dawson Street, Skipton, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Hudson Clough, of 28, Westmorland Street, Skipton was killed in action on April 23rd. Private Clough who was 33 years of age, enlisted in June last and went out to France in November. He was formerly employed as a shop assistant at Skipton. He was also a member of the Skipton Conservative Club, and a well-known billiard player. He has also another brother serving, Private Albert Clough, who is attached to the West Yorkshire Regiment, and has twice been wounded. He is at present at Whitley Bay, but is expecting shortly to return to the front. Private T. Core, of Skipton, and a pal of Private Clough, in a letter to his wife states:– “I shall never forget St. George’s Day (April 23rd), the day I last my pal.”
