William Wallace (born 20 May 1885) was the son of Francis and Sarah Wallace, née Athey and brother of Gunner Major Richard Wallace (q.v.). Their father was born at Throstle Nest, Conistone, Yorkshire and mother at Bamburgh, Northumberland.

1891 Marton, Yorkshire Census: The Kennels - William Wallace, aged 6 years, born Skipton, Yorkshire, son of Francis and Sarah Wallace.

1901 Marton, Yorkshire Census: The Kennels - William Wallace, aged 15 years, born West Marton, son of Francis and Sarah Wallace.

William was married to Jeannie Ann Lawrence in 1906.

1911 Hathersage, Derbyshire Census: Highlow - William Wallace, aged 26 years, born West Marton, Yorkshire, husband of Jeannie Ann Wallace.

William served with the Leeds City Police from 5 June 1908 to 18 March 1909 when he resigned. At the time of his enlistment he was gamekeeper at Hogg Hall, Offerton, Hathersage. (Information supplied by Nick Beeley, Sheffield).

WALLACE – On November 1st, 1918, from influenza at a hospital in Rouen, France, Gunner William Wallace, R.G.A., dearly beloved husband of Jean Wallace, of Chatsworth Estate, Derbyshire, and eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Wallace, of Kettlewell-in-Craven, aged 33 years.
