Robert Hodgson was the son of George and Susannah Hodgson, née Ellison and brother of Private John Hodgson (29749) ‘B’ Coy 10th Bn Lancashire Fusiliers who was killed in action, 25 August 1918. Their father was born at Gisburn Forest and mother at Clapham, Yorkshire. Susannah’s mother, Jane Ellison, married Robert Chamley. Robert and John were cousins of: Private Percy Hodgson (13771) (q.v.); Private Tom Hodgson (26671] (q.v.); Private Thomas Hodgson (32388) (q.v.) and Private Rowland Robinson (235477) (q.v.).

ROLL OF HONOUR

Mrs. Hodgson, who resides at 6, Alfred-st., Egerton, has received intimation from the Record Office, Preston, that her son, Pte. Robert Hodgson, Border Regiment, was posted missing on April 23rd. Pte. Hodgson, who is 37 years of age, enlisted in the L.N.L. Regiment, in May, 1916, and was transferred to the Suffolks, and later to the Border Regiment. He went out to the front in March, 1917. He was a cricketer, and was treasurer of the Egerton Cricket Club for about seven years.
