Abraham Hunter was the son of Jacob and Agnes Hunter, née Denney. Jacob was born at Bolton-le-Sands and Agnes at Dalton-in-Furness, Lancashire. Abraham’s sister, Mary, was married to L/Corporal John Simpson (18/1328) (q.v.).

1901 Bentham, Yorkshire Census: 12, Summer Hill - Abraham Hunter, aged 10 years, born Bentham, son of Jacob and Agnes Hunter.

1911 Barnoldswick, Yorkshire Census: 6, Lower North Avenue - Abraham Hunter, aged 20 years, born Bentham, Yorkshire, son of Agnes Ann Hunter. [Abraham's father was working away from home at Ambler Thorn, near Queensbury, Yorkshire.]

Abraham was married to Ethel Brierley in 1916.

Private A. Hunter, Barnoldswick

Private Abram Hunter, Duke of Wellington’s, died from gas poisoning at Boulogne on April 29th, two days after admission to hospital. He had been two years in France and had been previously wounded and gassed. He was 28 years of age and married, his wife residing at 5 North Avenue, Barnoldswick. Before enlisting he was employed by Messrs. Albert Hartley Ltd., Long Ing Sheeting Works.
