WOUNDED AND MISSING

Private Inman Whitaker, North Staffordshire Regiment, of Barnoldswick, has been officially reported missing since March 21st. He formerly carried on business as estate agent and accountant at Bank Buildings, and resided at 14 Park Avenue.

BARNOLDSWICK – Missing Six Months

After six months anxiety and fruitless enquiries, the welcome news came to hand yesterday (Thursday) morning that Private Inman Whitaker, North Staffs. Regiment, was a prisoner in Germany. He had been posted ‘missing’ since March 21st. The news came through the British Red Cross Society.

BARNOLDSWICK

After being missing since the 21st March, 1918, Pte Inman Whitaker, North Staffordshire Regt., is now presumed to have been killed in action on that date, or since. A previous report that he was a prisoner in Germany was not substantiated. Pte. Whitaker was the son of Mr. Thos. Whitaker, Booth House, Salterforth and prior to joining up on New Year’s Day, 1917 carried on business as an accountant and estate agent at Bank Buildings, Barnoldswick. He leaves a widow and four children.

ANOTHER BARNOLDSWICK SOLDIER’S DEATH

We reproduce a photograph of Private Inman Whittaker, North Staffordshire Regiment, who, as reported in our last week’s issue, was reported missing on March 21st, 1918, and is now presumed to have been killed on that date or since. Prior to joining up on January 1st, 1917, he carried on business as an accountant and estate agent at Bank Buildings, Barnoldswick. He leaves a widow and four children.
