WOUNDED AND MISSING

Private John Simpson, Duke of Wellington’s Regiment (formerly of Raikes Beck, Barnoldswick), is reported wounded and missing since April 13th. His wife now lives at Hill Top, Earby. Private Simpson is a Carleton man, and his two brothers (Charles and Fred) have also been reported missing.

BARNOLDSWICK – MISSING, PRESUMED KILLED

The War Office has presumed the death of Private John Henry Simpson, Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, of 17 Raikes Beck, Barnoldswick, who has been missing since April 14th, 1918. He was 33 years of age and leaves a wife (now residing at Earby) but no children. Private Simpson, who was a native of Carleton, had served two years in France. He formerly worked at Messrs. Nutter and Sons, Bankfield Shed, Barnoldswick.
