Thomas Pilkington was the son of Henry and Nancy Pilkington, née Ellis. Henry was born at Accrington and Nancy at Colne, Lancashire.

1881 Church, Lancashire Census: 18, Bradley Street - Thomas Pilkington, aged 3 years, born Accrington, Lancashire, son of Henry and Nancy Pilkington.

1891 Burnley, Lancashire Census: 27, Patten Street - Thomas Pilkington, aged 13 years, born Accrington, Lancashire. [Thomas, with his brothers George, Joseph and sister Emma were lodging with Alexander and Mary Ann Whitehead.]

‘Burnley Express’ (24 November 1917)

FORMERLY WOUNDED, AND NOW KILLED

Pte. Tom Pilkington, who formerly lived at Laithe-street, Springhill, Burnley, but latterly lived at Barnoldswick, is now reported by the War Office as killed. He had been missing in France since August 11th last.

Pte. Pilkington, 24067, of the West Ridings, who was about 38 years of age, joined in April last year, and went out just after Burnley Fair the same year. He was wounded at Beaumont Hamel at the beginning of December, and was in hospital four months. He had only been back at the front two months when he was killed. Neither of his parents is living, but two brothers and a sister survive him. His brother George lives at 9, Reed-street, Burnley. Deceased was formerly employed as a weaver at Sutcliffe’s Mill, Springhill.
